Trapeze Wires

Post by Scott A »

Hello All,

First time poster, recent SC17 purchaser. I need to replace my trap. wires. This might be a stupid question, but was wondering. Can you, or why don't people replace their trapeze wires, with the newer generation, high strength line - like Dyneema? High strength lower weight, etc. Just wondering.

Hi Scott,

People do use synthetic fibers for trap wires, standing rigging, etc, but there are several reasons they are not mainstream. High cost, longevity, and creep are all reasons that it is less common then traditional wire rigging.
Another concern that I have with using a line is the same reason you shouldn't use 7x19 wire rope for trap wires. The trap wire is not always loaded and it is easy to get a loop formed in flexible line or wire (7x19).
This would make it easier entangle a finger as you go out on the trapeze
