Outboard Motor Mount
I am designing a motor mount for my ARC22 but can't decide whether a telescoping system would be work as well as a fixed length?? I'm talking about 6"-10". Anyone tried a telescoping mount??
The reason I'm going to an outboard is that the drought around here exposed the roughest beaches [rocks, glass, torn metal. fish hooks, etc] we've seen in decades. Its a compromise I guess between saving the bottom of slowing the boat down a little. I'm not that fast anyway and I really miss catsailing when I have the energy...

Thom,
When using the motor you are probably going to need to get it as low as possible otherwise if the boat pitches fore and aft the prop will probably come out. If you mount the motor this low in a fixed position it will almost always get pounded by waves when sailing.
Because of these reasons the motor mounts we have done in the past have always been adjustable.

Re: Outboard Motor Mount
I am looking to build a motor mount for my SC20. I found this thread and figured it would be best to revive the old thread rather than start a new one on the same topic. Any ideas, feedback, or pictures would be great.
Thanks
Gene

Re: Outboard Motor Mount
My 20 came with a homemade motor mount (I assume) that is nice. It could be raised and lowered and uses a quick pin to lock it in place. It bolted to the beam using the telescoping bolts. I don't think I can use it now that I will have solid beams.

Mac,
That looks like a cheetah motor bracket.

Re: Outboard Motor Mount
It is very similar Jason. I thought it looked a little too good for homemade!

Re: Outboard Motor Mount
Here are some pictures of what we have been supplying recently. These mounts are on the 22 and would work great on a 20 also. They are designed to be used with the Torqueedo electric motor, they do not raise and lower as it is not necessary with this motor. Overall they work well. They are available in both Aluminum or Carbon and can be removed with one bolt. The Carbon one weighs 1.5 lbs, and the aluminum one is a little bit more.
Tom has two of them available and ready to ship, give him a call if your interested.

Re: Outboard Motor Mount
That "home made" mount looks ideal. I was thinking about something similar using the existing bolts.
The Aquarius version looks very nice but think that would work better with a solid beam. My Supercat 20 has the telescoping beams so it looks like the rivets would be an issue.

Gene,
I might be willing to part with mine if your interested, pretty sure I won't be using it. I need to sell off some of the stuff I'm not using in the upgrade of my 20. PM me of you want to talk about it.
