Thanks Matt,
Are the rudders normally symmetrical so it doesn't matter which is left or right?
To adjust rudder rake, would you put a shim behind the rudder gudgeon, or try to adjust some other way?

Re: How best to repair this?
Other end is pretty good, white coating is rubbed off a little on the tip from where I scrape up onto shore. I think the roller bearing got stuck when coming to shore and it busted up the groove.

How best to repair this?
So this would definitely make the weather helm stronger. I'm wondering what the best way to repair this is?
Fill with JBWeld or PC-11 Epoxy? I'm wondering if the pressure of the roller would crack the epoxy out in one big chunk.
or does it need to be faired and filled with fiberglass mat/filler ...

understanding weather helm
Okay, in trying to rebuild my rudders, I'm trying to understand what amplifies weather helm. I see how mast rake, rudder rake and rudder shape would create weather helm, but I'm trying to understand why my left arm get tired so much faster from having to tug on the tiller in good wind, while my ...

Re: trampoline
if you're looking for a cheap fix, i've got an old blue original tramp that wrapped around and front beam, and maybe also the rear. Just had it restitched before upgrading to the black mesh. There are some blue tramps on ebay, but the aquarius tramps are really nice.

Re: pinholes
I've heard applying some small positive pressure to the drain plug, careful, too much could blow the hull. Maybe the exhaust from a vacuum cleaner. Then coat with soapy water and look for bubbles.

Re: pinholes
Hard to imagine tiny little pinholes would allow water to get in. I found a few cups of water would get in my hulls after an hour or so. Couldn't figure out what it was until the transom cracked. I think the transom was deforming slightly and combined with old silicone around the drain plug bases ...

rudder kickup
One of my SC17 rudders doesn't seem to be kicking up. What is the usual culprit for this? do the white rollers get worn down or the spring lose stiffness?

Re: Solo righting a SC17
I always learned to have the tip of the mast pointing 45 degrees into the wind. That way the wind will get under the sail as well as help push the sail up when the mast starts coming up. Mast tip straight into the wind also works.
I usually just stand on the hull until the wind blows the tramp ...

Re: Refurbishing SC20
Do you know what the bolt backing plate is made from?
I need to do some transom repair to my SC17. I was thinking of installing a removable port hole that can be used for the repair as well as future inspection, but it's only about a 4" hole.

Re: Roller Furling Jib question
I reattached with using the red line to hold the jib, does that look right? It at least uses all the parts more thoroughly.
Do most people run the black line to the tramp so they can let the jib in and out while on the water?
