SC 19 Mainsail block holes

Post by jsb »

I have a question about the 5 or 6 holes at the end of the mainsail, where the mainsheet block goes. Under what conditions do I use which hole for the block. High wind, all the way in or out? Light breeze, all the way in or out? When do I use the middle holes? Still new at this game and not sure what to do with all the working parts on this boat.

JSB,

Moving it forward will de-power the sail, moving it back will power the sail up. So typically the higher the wind, the further forward you will need to move the hook. I cannot say the exact position for a given wind because it is highly dependent on the cut of your sail, the weight of crew on the boat and your skill level. You will need to play around with the position in different wind conditions to see what works best.
