Tearing down an SC20 to replace the beam buttons and I have the cable nuts loose on the caps however the cables look like they are epoxied into the caps. Can you advise the best way to get the cables both dolphin striker and traveler cable free from the beam end caps?

Thanks in advance!

Kevin,
The threaded end is swaged onto the cable and is not removable. You should however be able to remove the nuts from the end of the threaded rod and remove the end caps, but the cable will remain captive inside the beam. Make sure to make note of how far onto the threaded rod the nuts are installed, as this will affect your cable tension.

Matt,

Thanks! So the caps themselves are not threaded and I most likely have corrosion giving me hell!

Thanks Kevin

Correct, the caps are not threaded. Corrosion is likely the issue since the rod is stainless and the cap is aluminum.

Kevin:

OT, but I too have a couple of telescoping SC20s and am in the process of mechanizing the trailer expansion and contraction.

Would love to talk about what you do with yours.
