Front crossbar
I got my first taste of beach catamarans on Pacific Cats in 1969. They had a crossbar all the way forward between the bows. Why did this go out of favor?

I think because of high drag if it hits the water.

No to mention the high pain that comes from hitting via a pitch pole. Kind of like a boom crack to the skull on a bad jibe.
