I need a tang

Post by Bean »

I need a second tang. I have the old single and there are screws from a second tang at some point. Any idea on this? Or, is it OK to have all the rigging and traps on one ring?

Bean,

This was the standard hound fitting on the early SuperCat 17's in which case all wires were attached to a single point. I am not sure about the extra set of holes. This works, but it is very difficult to attach all of the trap wires along with the shrouds with a single shackle, which caused many people to use a separate shackle for the trap wires.

In the mid 1980's all of the SuperCat's were updated to use a larger hounds fitting that had two holes, one for the shrouds and one for the trapeze. This fitting is available from Aquarius Sail and would replace your existing single hole fitting.

Matt,
Would it match the same holes or how would it secure?

I am not 100% sure, but the bottom two holes should match the bottom two holes of the new style hounds fitting. The new fitting attaches with 8 large sheet metal screws like your existing fitting.
