Re: Beam wedge Question
I knew there had to be something special about them. So are they all off center? Why would I have a bunch of center holed ones? Do you think that maybe they were used in the inside bolt?

Re: Tubular battens question
Thanks! I think the battens I got before were spares for a 22, so that makes sense. What are the lengths of the two different battens before splicing them? I have a feeling that I have a bunch of the shorter one and none of the longer one.

Beam wedge Question
I just picked up a box of parts and there are several beam wedges in there--at least that is what I would call them. I'm talking about the cast aluminum semi-circular braces that the bolt goes through inside the beam to attach to the hulls. I noticed that some had the hole off-set a little bit to th...

Tubular battens question
So this is going to sound a little stupid, but I haven't dealt with a lot of tubular battens. My question concerns the long ones--are there one piece long battens or are the long ones made from two smaller ones with one inserted into the other?? I inherited a cache of battens a while back that had a...

Re: sails; square top and roach
So, The America's cup boats have square top jibs, or something to that effect. Smyth made a really nice self-tacking jib for a SC17 that had a small square top, too. So, are the benefits the same as a square top main? I'm thinking it would open the slot a little better where (to me) it is pinched of...

Re: Generic Sails
That's interesting--I have never considered moving the clew pin based on wind. It has always been a one spot where the sail is getting equal pressure on the foot and the leech. Basically, if it is flapping on the foot, move up one hole, if it is flapping on the leech, move it down one hole. I have t...

Re: Jib Barber Hauler system SC 20
Bill, I'm all about the self-tacker, I have one on my 15 and I swear by it! I went with Tom's suggestion to do the straight traveler track and I got the entire set up from him except for the double block to control the jib sheet and traveler. That is a great system for a double handed boat and I had...

Re: New Sails - Help, Tom!!??
Bill, I have bought factory sails from Tom, a spinnaker and self tacking jib. I have been very pleased with both! That's why at the beginning of this thread, I went to him to see if he could work out some kind of factory colored sails. I understand the time it takes and the frustration of trying to ...

Re: Jib Barber Hauler system SC 20
Thanks, Bill! The jib has roller furling battens installed at an angle. I did move the shackle at the clew to a higher hole, which made it better, but not all better. I thought a ring around both lines would be pretty frictionless. Maybe I didn't descibe the set up correctly. there are eyestraps on ...

Re: Jib Barber Hauler system SC 20
I'm in the camp that tries to stick with the original design because it had to have been well thought out. That's kind of the Supercat way. I have sold the boat, but part of the deal is that I get to use it whenever I want! Along with that comes Technical support on my end, so I'm trying to figure o...

Re: New Sails - Help, Tom!!??
Tom has talked to me at length about the sail cloth and I appreciate and respect his opinion on the subject--as I do yours, Bill. I understand that Tom wants to sell the best most performance sails that he can, I mean, he has an excellent(!!) reputation to uphold. Some of us are just willing to give...

Re: New Sails - Help, Tom!!??
Bill,
I'm not sure that I follow about the stretchy sailcloth and the top of the sail opening up too early. I guess I am not understanding the effect on pointing ability, too--could you please explain?
Also, what would batten tension on the top (diagonal square top) batten do to change things??

Re: Jib Barber Hauler system SC 20
I was trying to avoid that, but I have seen other boats with a line connecting the hulls and the jib blocks tied off to that line. Kinda like a Prindle 19/18-2 system. Makes the tramp not so comfortable, but if it makes sailing easier, I may go that route. I'm working on putting a flip-flop block on...

Jib Barber Hauler system SC 20
I'm having troubles with the Jib system on my 20 and it is getting to be very frustrating. I have a boom with bullet blocks mounted a few feet from the gooseneck that are supposed to pull in the jib sheet on each side so that you can close the slot when going upwind. I'm assuming this is the proper ...

Looking for help on a telescoping trailer
I'm rebuilding my trailer for my 20 and I thought I would make it a telescoping trailer while I was at it. I'm thinking that I need to make a big frame with cradles on one side to hold the boat. I get the idea of using wires and a winch to winch the frame in and out, so I'm good there. What I need i...
