Re: Permagrin all over again!
Yeah, been doin' that. Even trapping to leeward and way forward, parallel to(atop) the lee hull. Which really does lift the stern free, which produces a noticable bump in speed. To sail this boat well is a very athletic undertaking, and hugely rewarding. I'm wasted and happy at the end of a sailing ...

Re: Permagrin all over again!
"Permagrin" might be a great name for the boat! We've been sailing the 22 from leeward in light air, with crew running mainsheet, and have been able to pop the windward hull free in 4 to 5 kts of breeze, and keep it out for miles at a time. The wind here is so much more steady in light air, and the ...

Re: SuperCat 20 price
SC 20s I see currently for sale are in the $4500 to $6500 range fully equipped, updated sails, one w/ spin. Make sure its all there, buying missing parts adds up quickly. Set up time is greater than the average beachcat, mast up storage is a big plus. Big, powerful boat, I loved it for high wind ...

Hey George,
Are you finding the boat hard to tack? I always found it to be pretty effortless to come around if I'm paying attention. Start the tack with very slight pressure on the tiller, allowing the boat to begin turning. As the bows pass thru the wind and the boatspeed drops, continue applying ...

I use the Harken 55 mm Ratchamatics on Flight Risk(24') and on the F18HT, and have been very pleased with their operation and durablilty. Have also used the Ronstan 40mm smart ratchets and the 55mm orbit blks on the SC20 with less success. Two of the 40s went bad at some point over the 4 years I had ...

Hey Kevin,
I've got a guy interested in buying the mast, and he seems real keen to know how much it weighs. I've got mine lying in the yard, but don't really have any scale to weigh it with. I don't want to make you go out of your way, I was hoping someone just had that info in their head. Thanks ...

My SC20 with a new square top Pentex main was always tough to raise. I hit the luff rope with McLube every time it was raised, but the real trick was to pay close attention to the rotation of the mast as the main was being raised. If the mast was perfectly in line with the sail, it would go up fine ...

I installed a righting pole on an H18 using a section of windsurfing mast for the pole, and using the rubber universal joint to attach the pole to the dolphin striker just below the main beam. Will require a bit of engineering to attach to the floating compression post. The pole extended aft to just ...

mast wall thickness
Matt or Tom,
Can you tell me the wall thickness of my SC20 std rig mast? I measured 2mm at the luff track, but not sure if the walls are the same. Is the same extrusion used on the tall rig? Thanks!
