Wetsuit
Who sails in a wetsuit? This has been a COLD ugly summer in Western New York. I have a spray top that works well on some days. I'm thinking of a farmer john to keep the bottom half warm. A full wet suit seems like overkill to me, but I really don't know.

Re: Spin vs Jib
Hi Eric,
Thanks for the reply. Do you have a spin? Is it from Aquarius or a home brew?

Spin vs Jib
For the last two years I have seen several cats rigged with main and spin, but no jib. These spins seem to be on the small side, yet the boat move along quite nicely. These spins are used on most points of sail as well. What's the deal?

Re: Rudder lock/unlock problems
The only time I had this type of problem was with sand or other debris in the rudder mechanism. Dis- assemble the entire rudder system on one side, it does not take very long. Leave the other rudder intact so you can use it as a guide for re-assembly. Clean all components. Remove the lines from the ...

Re: Upgraded SC-15 Questions
I have a cheek block and a jamb cleat mounted on the port side of the mast. By looping the down haul line through the foot of the luff then around the cheek block and through the jamb cleat I get a 2 to 1 mechanical advantage. I can pull the luff pretty tight, but I don't know how to measure the for...

Upgraded SC-15 Questions
The 15 that is for sale on the brokerage page has some neat modifications. I'm wondering which of them would be important to a recreational sailor and would be possible to retrofit to a SC17. Dual downhauls, doe this mean one for the main and one for the jib? From the picture I'm led to believe that...

Re: A List of SC and ARC Firsts
Now I know why the mast on the 17 is so large in cross section. It is a giant float! Cool. It is ugly ugly wintertime here in Western New York. Time to think about the little tings that need to be done to get the fleet ready for next season. The Montauk lifting harness needs repair. A dock line need...

Re: Breaking a mast
Was your spin too big or was the hound for the spin located too high on the mast? The SC mast is so heavy an extrusion I would think it could withstand the stress of a spinnaker.

What are the benefits of a self tacking jib?
What is the big deal of a self tacking jib? The sail looks smaller, I don't think you can use a furler with it, soooo?

Breaking a mast
Has anyone ever broken a mast while sailing? I don't mean pitchpoling on the beach or hitting a tree, I mean snapped it while sailing either main & jib or with a spinnaker?

Spin for an older SC17
So I have a 17 from the mid 80's. It has a nice Aquarius Sail tramp, pin top main and a jib. How do I put a spin on this? I would be willing to ditch the jib if I could put a spin on it. I also, think using a spin from a newer SC 17 would be too much sail. I will not race this boat, but I am interes...

Re: SC17 solo mast stepping
This past weekend I setup the SC 15 that I just sold with the new owner. We did not have the rudders on the hull at the time. The lack of rudders, tiller arms, etc made raising the mast a snap. In the future I will put the mast up first, then attach the rudders. If I combine leaving off the rudders ...

Re: Beach Cat Spinnakers
I sail alone about half the time and with one other person most of the rest of the time. I guess I will wait to see what develops.

Re: Beach Cat Spinnakers
So...we will not be seeing a roller furling spinnaker setup from Aquarius? The launching systems now available seem like a pain.
